Cornhusk Mat Making Workshop
October 10, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm EDT
$20.00with Samantha Doxtator, Wolf Clan Oneida Nation
Originally, Cornhusk Mats were placed at the doorway of longhouses with the braided side down, and the loose husk up for everyone to walk across before they entered. Corn, already important to our people, held special significance to clean off any negativity from anyone entering the longhouse. To this day, many people still lay these mats at the doorways of their homes to keep the energy good that’s coming in.
This workshop also teaches and inspires: Teamwork and Cooperation, Patience and Attention to Detail, Listening Skills, Problem Solving and Trouble Shooting Skills, all while enhancing Creativity and promoting Positive Self-Esteem.
In this one day workshop each participant will be able to complete a medium sized (36” in diameter) Cornhusk Mat.
Lunch/Snacks will be provided think GREEN bring your feast basket or bag
