You have likely started to see turtles out and about as we are in peak nesting season (May-August). Vehicles are one of the largest threats to these species at risk, so we ask that you please be extra vigilant while driving. If you see a turtle in the road and it is safe to do so, please move the turtle to the side of the road, in the direction the turtle was already heading. When nesting season arrives, if you notice a nesting turtle on the roadside, please report it so a nest protector can be placed on top to protect the eggs.
Less than 2% of baby turtles make it to adulthood? Also, adults have to be roughly 8 years old before they can lay eggs. Let’s help as many turtles see the age of 8 as possible!
