Tahatikonhsotontie Head Start Program
Nurturing Generations of Strong Spirits by providing resources to children, families and the community that will empower self-identity as Indigenous Peoples.
Background
We first opened in 2000 and Tahatikonhsotontie Head Start has been successful right from the beginning.
The Tahatikonhsotóntie Head Start provides a warm, nurturing, inclusive environment for children 0 – 6 years of age. Our program uses the high scope model (plan-do-review) to engage children through experiential learning while incorporating Mohawk language and culture into the daily learning. Our educators foster the inquiry process using these approaches to enhance the Child’s learning experience.
The Tahatikonhsotóntie Head Start program focuses on holistic child development and this approach is used in every program area. The holistic approach includes the following six (6) components:
1. Culture and Language
2. Education
3. Health
4. Nutrition
5. Social Support
6. Parental Development
