Midwinter begins on the fifth day after the New Moon in January.

Midwinter is the beginning of the Rotinonhsyón:ni New Year and is a time for thanksgiving and renewal. The constellations and Grandmother Moon have aligned themselves once again to remind us of our responsibility to acknowledge and give thanks that we have seen another year and to prepare for the year ahead.

In an act of solidarity to acknowledge the importance of this time of year, the Mohawk Administration Offices, Quinte Mohawk School and Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na will be closed Friday January 31st, 2019.
