With new cases of COVID-19 announced today, specifically impacting Quinte Mohawk School, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte know the community is wondering if this will have any impact on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Council election taking place tomorrow (Dec. 4).

The school was shut down today (Dec. 3) to allow our Community Health Team to complete thorough contact tracing, and to allow custodial staff at QMS to do a deep clean. With that in mind, the election is continuing on as planned. With all precautions in place to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the school as well as the complete sanitization today, there is no additional risk posed to community members that would be entering the school to vote Saturday.

Polls will be open at QMS from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 4 to allow members of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte to cast a ballot in the TMC election. An official count will take place once polls close, and results will be posted early Sunday morning.

If you are being asked to self-isolate or are experiencing symptoms – please do not come in the building.  If you wish to vote, please contact the electoral officer, Leah Brant, at 613-848-4701 or leahb1982@hotmail.com.
