The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians are excited to invite submissions for our National Indigenous Peoples Day Colouring Contest and to celebrate the creativity of youth across our AIAI member Nations.
We also want to congratulate Kaya Maracle (Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte), our Art Contest winner for this beautiful colouring page she designed.
Art description from the artist: This original colouring page is inspired by the Haudenosaunee creation story of the Creator’s game – lacrosse the medicine game. For Indigenous peoples, lacrosse has long carried spiritual, physical, and communal significance, played for healing, conflict resolution, and unity. The first game is said to have been played between the four legged animals, the winged birds, and this artwork represents the six original captains: for the four-legged, the bear (strength & power), the deer (speed & agility), and the turtle (endurance and perseverance); for the winged, the owl (wisdom and vision), the hawk and the eagles (precision and swift movement).
A floral boarder surrounds the scene, honouring the presence and strength of women in lacrosse for past, present, and future. The medallion around the bear’s neck features an original beaded design created by my, inspired by the Strawberry Moon around Indigenous Peoples Day. It is tied with a sweetgrass braid to represent the healing spirit and sacred medicine of the Creator’s Game. See colouring page attached
National Indigenous Peoples Day Colouring Contest Details:
Who: Open to all AIAI member youth under 13.
Deadline: Submissions must be received by Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Submissions: Please e-mail completed colouring pages along with name, age, member Nation and contact information (phone number and e-mail address) to atimothy@aiai.on.ca
Winner: Three winners of $100, $200 & $300 will be selected through a draw process and notified on June 18, 2026.
