We invite submissions for our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Colouring Contest Draw and to celebrate the creativity of youth across our AIAI member Nations.
We also want to congratulate Kai Smith-Kilmer, our Art Contest winner who designed the beautiful colouring page. (attached)
Art description from the artist:
This piece was a little difficult for me to draw, not artistically but from all the emotions it brought up. I powered through these emotions however and ended up with a drawing I’m really proud of, especially considering this was my first time drawing a colouring page.
I drew the border with a design I thought would be fun to colour, then I drew strawberries also known as heart berries because they represent life, health, love, peace and so much more. Then I added sweetgrass to the top and bottom of the page as it is a sacred plant.
Next, I drew the dream catcher because it is a symbol of oneness, I made sure to draw eagle feathers as the eagle represents strength, courage and wisdom, and inside I drew the most important part of the drawing, an elder residential school survivor holding a child, above them I added the word remember and on both sides a handprint.
Lastly, I added flowers along both sides of the page to fill up space and make a more enjoyable colouring experience since flowers can be a variety of different colours.
Also, you wouldn’t know without me saying anything due to the fact that this is a black and white colouring page but the dream catcher is sectioned off in four parts because it’s meant to be the medicine wheel but of course people can colour it however they please.
I felt great pride drawing this piece, and I hope it spreads the word of Truth and Reconciliation!

Who: Open to all registered or nominal roll AIAI member youth under 13.
Deadline: Submissions must be received by Monday, September 28, 2026.
Submissions: Please e-mail completed colouring pages along with name, age, member Nation and contact information (phone number and e-mail address) to atimothy@aiai.on.ca
Winner: Three winners of $100, $200 & $300 will be selected through a draw process and notified on September 29, 2026.
