Update regarding the operation of Marijuana Dispensaries Posted on February 14, 2018

The Tyendinaga Mohawk Council has received a number of enquiries from members regarding the legalization of cannabis for recreational use and the operation of marijuana dispensaries on the Territory and Council’s plan to engage the community.

Talks between First Nations and the Federal and Provincial Governments are taking place at the regional and national level and, we are currently awaiting more information regarding the outcome of the discussions between the Chiefs of Ontario, and the AFN with the federal and provincial governments.  Once we have been provided with up to date information regarding the outcome of those discussions, we will be able to begin engaging the community on this highly sensitive issue.  At that time, we will be able to provide the most current information we have received to all members, and we are hoping this will take place in next few months.

Moving forward, MBQ will share any information that we receive from the Chief’s of Ontario, A.I.A.I., the AFN, and Federal and Provincial governments regarding the Legalization of Cannabis for recreational use and the operation of dispensaries on reserve, via MBQ’s website and Social Media.
